Privacy Policy

Showbly ("we", "us") is a creative studio app for children, controlled by parents. This policy explains, in plain language, what Showbly does and does not do with information. The short version: Showbly is designed so that we never receive personal information about your child.

1. The design principle: everything stays on your device

• Showbly runs entirely in your browser. Shows, characters, text your child types and voice recordings are saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on the device you use. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.
• Showbly has no user accounts and no sign-up for children or adults.
• Showbly contains no advertising, no third-party analytics SDKs, no social features, no chat, no comments and no public gallery.
• Showbly never publishes videos. Saving a video produces a file on your device. What happens to that file afterwards is entirely your decision. The optional “My Circle” (below) is the one place a video can leave the device — to a private family space a parent controls.

2. Information we do not collect from children

We do not collect, store or transmit names, ages, photos, voice recordings, location, contact details, device identifiers or any other personal information from children. Voice recording (optional) uses the microphone only with the browser's permission and the audio is stored locally on your device only.

3. The one thing that talks to the internet: PRO license activation (parents only)

If a parent buys Showbly PRO, the purchase is completed by our merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy, LLC, on their checkout pages under their privacy policy. Lemon Squeezy collects the information needed to process the payment (such as the parent's email address, payment method and billing country) and issues a license key by email. We do not see or store card numbers.

When a parent enters the license key in the Parent Zone, the app sends the key and a generic device label (for example "Showbly Windows") to Lemon Squeezy's license service to confirm the key is valid. The app repeats this check periodically. No child data is included in these requests.

3b. Optional: “My Circle” — parent-approved family sharing

Showbly works entirely on the device by default. A parent may turn on “My Circle” in the Parent Zone to create a private family space in the Showbly cloud. In that space we store only: the child’s nickname and cartoon look (never a photo), the videos the parent explicitly approved by watching them and tapping Approve, the display names family viewers typed for themselves, and emoji/fixed-phrase reactions. Viewers join only with a code the parent sends; there is no search, no public link and no free-text chat. A parent can freeze the space (hides everything instantly) or delete it (removes every video) at any time. Shared videos are deleted after 90 days; requests a parent did not approve are deleted after 7 days. A child can only ask to share: when the parent has linked their own phone, that request is uploaded to a private inbox that only the parent can open, and it is shown to nobody until the parent approves it.

The optional in-app coach can read its instructions out loud. It uses only text-to-speech voices already installed on your device (the browser's local voices) and never a network voice service, so nothing is sent anywhere. Parents can turn the coach voice off in the Parent Zone.

3c. Optional: beta feedback (parents only)

During the beta, the Parent Zone (behind the parent gate) has a "Tell us how it went" form. Nothing is sent unless a parent presses Send. A message contains only what the parent chose to fill in — a rating, the child's age range, two free-text answers and, optionally, the parent's email address if they want a reply — plus the app version, language, device type (for example "iOS") and the number of shows on the device, so we can reproduce problems. We do not store IP addresses or any device identifier with it. Feedback is kept in our hosting provider's storage (Netlify), read only by the Showbly team, used only to improve Showbly and to reply when asked, and deleted on request (write to hello@showbly.app). Please do not write children's names or other personal details in the text fields.

3d. Optional: launch news by email (parents only)

If a parent enters an email address in the "Keep me posted" form on this website, we store that address, the website language and the date — nothing else — in our hosting provider's storage (Netlify). We use it only to send occasional news about Showbly, never share or sell it, and delete it on request: reply "unsubscribe" to any email or write to hello@showbly.app. The form is for adults; children should not enter their email.

4. Fonts

The app ships its own copy of the "Rubik" typeface and loads no third-party resources at all; its Content-Security-Policy allows connections only to our own domain and to Lemon Squeezy's license service. This website hosts its own fonts as well, so neither the app nor the site loads anything from third-party servers.

5. Web hosting logs

Like every website, our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and operations. We do not use these logs to identify or track individuals and we do not combine them with any other data.

6. Cookies and local storage

Showbly does not use cookies. It uses browser local storage on your device to save your child's shows, your language choice, your optional parent PIN (stored only as a salted hash) and your PRO license status. You can delete all of it at any time from the Parent Zone ("Delete all shows and data") or by clearing your browser's site data.

7. Children's privacy laws (COPPA, GDPR-K, UK Children's Code and others)

Showbly is intended for children aged 6–12 under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Because Showbly does not collect personal information from children, no verifiable parental consent for data collection is required. Purchases, settings and data deletion are placed behind a Parent Zone that requires an adult-oriented gate and an optional PIN. If you believe a child has provided us personal information through any channel (for example by emailing us), contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you or your child in connection with the app, most access, correction and deletion rights are exercised directly on your device (Parent Zone → Delete all shows and data). For purchase records, Lemon Squeezy is the data controller for payment information; we can help you route a request to them. You may also contact us at any time at hello@showbly.app.

9. Changes

If we ever change how Showbly works with data — for example by adding an optional cloud backup — we will update this policy, change the date above and, for any feature involving children's data, seek verifiable parental consent before it is enabled.
